Pam Grier alias Kit Porter

Pam Grier was born in North Carolina in 1949. Her mother was a nurse and her father an Air Force mechanic.
She began har career as a movie actress in the 70’s, in films such as : The Big Doll House (1971), Coffy (1973), Scream, Blacula, Scream! (1973), Foxy Brown (1974), and Sheba Baby (1975).
During the 80’s, she became a regular on Miami Vice (1984) and also played in some films : Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983), The Allnighter (1987), Above the Law (1988), Class of 1999 (1990).
But it is in the 90’s that she had her most famous and biggest role in Jackie Brown (1997), a film directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Her long career (over thirty years) has made her a well-known name in Hollywood.

Kit Porter is Bette’s half-sister. In the beginning of the first season she is a famous musician and club owner, who is struggling with alcoholism. Bette will help her to get her life back in order. Kit Porter is one of the few straight female characters of the serie.

Rachel Shelley alias Helena Peabody

Rachel Shelley was born and raised in England. She graduated English and Drama in the Sheffield University. She originally was a theatre actress. She even was a founder member of the Crowded Theatre Company.

Helena Peabody is a rich heiress who decided to live in L.A. She also is a lesbian, and is a part of the group of friends. She will soon discover real life when her upset mother takes all her money away. She discovers what beeing “poor” means. She has to work to earn enough to live…

Mia Kirshner alias Jenny Schecter

Mia Kirshner was born in Toronto, ON Canada, on January the 25th, 1976. Her mother is a teacher and her father a journalist. She studied Russian literature and 20th century movie industry in Montreal. She was an actor in the following series : Party Monster, New Best Friend and 24. She also had a part in the internationaly successfull movie The Black Dahlia. In The L word, she plays Jenny Schecter.

Jenny Schecter is a young writer who still studies literature. She comes to L.A. to live with her boyfriend Tim. His neighbours are the lesbian couple Bette and Tina. Jenny discovers a wholde new world. She will eventually become a lesbian herself.

Jennifer Beals alias Bette Porter

Jennifer Beals was born on December 19 1963, in Chicago, Illinois.

She became the Hollywood star in the 80’s for her well noticed character in Flashdanse (1983).

Since then, she appeared in several movies (Four rooms, The anniversary party…).

She is one of the main characters of the successfull TV-show The L word .

She plays Bette Porter, a museum director. In season 1, she is in a long-tirm relationship with her partner Tina. She is struggling between her professional life and trying to concieve a baby.
