The pilot of the show was aired on January 18, 2004. The whole first season contains 13 episodes.
The story is composed of intertwined plots within a group of lesbians and bisexuals:
- Bette Porter and Tina Kennard have been in a relationship for seven years, they are trying to have a baby. Tina eventually becomes pregnant through artificial insemination but has a miscarriage. Further, Bette has an affair with a female carpenter, which involves dramatic consequences on the couple.
- Jenny Shecter settles down with her boyfriend Tim Haspel, Bette’s and Tina’s neighbor. She falls in love with the owner of the local pub “The Planet” : Marina Ferrer, who’s also a member of the group.
- Shane McCutcheon is also friend with the group. She is an androgynous, highly sexual hairstylist and serial heart-breaker
- Alice Pieszecki is a dramatic bisexual journalist, who is looking for love. She is the author of The chart, which is a L.A. lesbian interconnection website.
- Dana Fairbanks is a professional tennis player. Only her friends know about her homosexuality. She falls in love with a sous-cher named Lara Perkins.
